A child abducted in Connecticut was found safe and her father taken into custody on I-99 near State College on Friday.
Pennsylvania State Police issued an Amber Alert on Friday morning for the Bridgeport (Conn.) Police, after 6-year-old Aylin Sophia Hernandez was allegedly abducted from her Bridgeport home by her father, Oscar Hernandez. They were believed to be in the Altoona area in a silver Hyundai Sonata with Connecticut plates.
Police say they spotted the vehicle and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. Oscar Hernandez refused to stop and while traveling at a high speed struck a tractor trailer near the Shiloh Road exit of I-99. That caused two state police vehicles in pursuit to crash as well.
Oscar Hernandez was taken into custody and transported to the hospital for injuries. Aylin was safe and sustained minor injuries, police said. Two state troopers also were treated for minor injuries.
The Hartford Courant reported that Oscar Hernandez is the suspect in an early morning stabbing that killed Aylin’s mother and injured another woman, who was in critical but stable condition and is expected to survive.
Police cruisers and a state police helicopter were still on the scene early Friday afternoon. I-99 northbound near Shiloh Road was closed and traffic was being diverted. Traffic was backed up for several miles until the road re-opened around 2 p.m.
