Cloudy and dirty water has been an ongoing problem in the Mountaintop region for several years. Because of aging infrastructure and leaky waterlines, the Mountaintop Regional Water Authority has repeatedly issued boil advisories.
Cloudy water has persisted, and many residents double-filter their water to make sure it’s drinkable, but the water authority submitted a plan to fix the problem and it was approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection last week. A DEP spokesperson, meanwhile, said that cloudy or muddy water are common examples of fluctuations that that can occur in the appearance of drinking water supplies, and sometimes occur in water supplies that still meet the Safe Water Drinking Act standards.
