After months of negotiations and temporary agreements, Mount Nittany Medical Center announced yesterday that they have successfully reached a tentative agreement with Centre Emergency Medical Associates (CEMA) that hopes to ensure reasonable health insurance participation from the group.

The new contract with the third-party physicians group includes a provision that will require CEMA to negotiate participation with the region’s major health insurance plans provided the plans offer a reasonable reimbursement rate.  The contract also allows the Medical Center to audit the group’s negotiations via an independent third party to ensure CEMA’s compliance with the contract.

The new contract was deemed necessary by a task force initiated by the Medical Center earlier this year, including board of trustees and executive team members.  Their goal was to evaluate the key elements in the contract for services and the priorities involved in it.  After their investigation, they decided to put more importance on the group’s requirements to participate with insurance providers.

The new agreement will ensure reasonable insurance participation from the group as well as maintain the current standards the Medical Center holds valuable in their service.
