Update: A news release from The Fox on Wednesday morning stated the station would be carrying “The Steve Jones Show” on weekday afternoons. Station management issued a correction on Wednesday night, saying they have decided not to carry the show “due to a conflict of interest in program scheduling.”
“The station deeply regrets any confusion that may have occurred,” the correction reads.
This story has been updated accordingly.
A new station is bringing Fox Sports Radio shows and a lineup of local programming to the airwaves in Centre County.
SkyWave Broadcasting’s 98.7 The Fox on WFXS-FM is already broadcasting Fox Sports programs and will launch its daily eight hours of local news and sports talk on Aug. 21, according to a news release.
The station, which was previously Bigfoot Country Legends, was purchased by SkyWave from Covenant Communications for $325,000 in June. It will bring back national and local sports talk after State College’s ESPN Radio left the market following a restructuring when Seven Mountains Media purchased Forever Media stations earlier this year.
Fox Sports Radio shows airing on the new station include “Two Pros and a Cup of Joe” with LaVar Arrington, Brady Quinn and Jonas Knox, “The Dan Patrick Show,” “The Odd Couple” with Chris Broussard and Rob Parker,” “The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon” and “The Ben Maller Show.”
Local programming will feature a high school coaches show from 7 to 8 p.m. on Wednesdays and the “Centre County Red Zone” on Friday nights with live updates from Centre County schools’ games.
Throughout the year, The Fox will broadcast local high school boys and girls basketball, wrestling, baseball and softball, as well as NASCAR, NFL and college football and basketball, according to General Manager Sam Jordan.
Some familiar names and shows also will be returning to the local airwaves as part of the lineup.
“Let’s Talk” with Scott Geesey and Jeff Byers will discuss local news from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily. Geesey and Byers are both veterans of local talk radio, and Byers is the longtime radio voice of Penn State wrestling.
Byers also will host “The Goon and Ironhead Show,” with former Nittany Lion football player Keith Conlin from 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays live from Quaker Steak and Lube, and he’ll be behind the mic from 4 to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays for “Ironhead on Sports,” focusing on Centre County athletes and teams.
Jed Donahue’s PA Sports Now returns locally in the 5 to 7 p.m. slot Monday through Friday, and the Keystone Sports Kickoff Show hosted by Jim Galanti dives into Penn State and Pennsylvania sports Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons.
The aim of the station is to be “live and local and to make it a fun, entertaining place for listeners to keep up to date with the local sports scene and beyond,” Jordan said.
