You’ve probably noticed the construction activity on South Atherton Street. Construction crews are building a new student housing project.
Developers Roy and Angie Walk are constructing an apartment complex at 723 S. Atherton St. called Cliffside Heights. The property will be a 17,124 square-foot, three-story, 12 unit building.
The apartments are already available for rent for the fall. Construction started in October and is slated to be complete by June 30.
Several years ago the Walks purchased the property with plans to expand an existing business. Last year, the couple decided to construct apartments instead.
“We looked at other developments as far as commercial properties. And you’re always dealing with setbacks and parking regulations and what you can really fit on the property,” says Roy Walk. “And after evaluating the close proximity to a lot of comfort areas for the students as far as shopping centers, grocery stores and salons … while still being in walking distance to campus and downtown, we just decided that it would suit best for that application.”
The apartment complex will have two bedroom, two bathroom units as well as three bedroom, three bath furnished apartments. These units include parking and on-site coin-operated laundry. Rent ranges from $1,550 to $2,330 a month.
The building has a 63 resident occupancy with fully furnished apartments. Apartments range from roughly 1,000 square-feet to more than 1,200 square feet.
Penn Terra Engineering developed the site plan. Albert Drobka performed the architectural work. Construction is being handled by Poole Anderson.
Associated Realty Property Management is handling leases for the property.
