Overnight road work began this week and will continue in July on Blue Course Drive in Ferguson Township.

The microsurfacing project will continue through Thursday night and then resume July 8-12, with working taking place 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night, according to the township.

Contractor Asphalt Paving Systems will perform work within 1,000 feet of residential sections (in pink on the map below) from 7 to 10 p.m. “to minimize inconvenience,” the township wrote in a press release. Work in nonresidential sections (in red) will take place until 6 a.m. without restrictions.

No road closures are planned, but drivers may encounter short delays with temporary traffic control measures in place.

“The project is scheduled for nighttime hours to mitigate disruptions to daily traffic and enhance worker safety,” according to the township. “Nighttime work reduces the volume of vehicles on the road, making it safer for construction crews.”

Microsurfacing is preventative maintenance to prevent water infiltration which can cause damage during freeze-thaw cycles. It involves application of an emulsion and aggregate mixture that seals the road and provides necessary friction to ensure the surface is not slippery.

All work is weather-dependent and the township will notify residents of any changes to the schedule.

Ferguson Township is funding the $432,655.84 project.
