No one was injured when a driver accidentally crashed into the front of Trader Joe’s in Patton Township on Thursday morning, according to township police.

The driver of a Toyota Corolla, a 77-year-old male State College resident, said he was parked in a handicapped parking spot in front of the store around 8:50 a.m. when he intended to apply the brake but pressed the accelerator instead, Patton Township police Chief Tyler Jolley said on Friday.

The car then ran over a sign post and crashed into the sliding glass front doors of the building at 243 Patriot Lane.

No injuries were reported by the driver, a 74-year-old female passenger or anyone else in the area of the store, Jolley said.

Centre Region Code Administration assessed the damage to the building after Gio’s Towing removed the car, and the store was able to resume operations at 11 a.m.

No charges will be filed, Jolley said.

It’s at least the second time Trader Joe’s has been damaged in the same type of crash. On Oct. 21, 2018, an 88-year-old woman accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake and crashed her Mercedes Benz C-300 into the front doors of the building
