No tornadoes were reported on the ground Wednesday night in Centre County, according to AccuWeather.com.

But a funnel cloud in the sky was reported just northeast of Philipsburg, said Brian Edwards, a meteorologist with the State College-based weather service. He said it was spotted six miles southeast of the Moshannon area in Clearfield County.

In addition, especially strong winds with gusts of 60 mph to 70 mph were reported in the Centre Hall area, Edwards said. He said numerous reports of downed trees have been arriving from that part of Centre County. Power outages were reported there, too.

Shortly before 7 p.m., the National Weather Service announced a tornado warning for parts of Clearfield and Centre counties. That warning expired before 9 p.m., but a severe thunderstorm watch remained in effect through 1 a.m. Thursday for the State College area.
