Crews will perform overnight cleaning and inspections of storm and sanitary sewers this week in downtown State College following approval of a noise waiver on Monday night by Borough Council.
Cleaning and televising — or inspecting with cameras — will take place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday night through Friday night on East Calder Way between McAllister and High streets.
The work is needed in preparation for future phases of the Calder Way project, a multi-phase initiative to create a new pedestrian and bike-friendly streetscape while also replacing utilities and sewers.
“The data collected will be used by the design consultant to verify that the plan set accurately reflects existing field conditions,” Public Works Director Sam Robbins wrote in a memo included with Monday night’s meeting agenda. “It is critical this work be done in the evening hours when flows are at a minimum.”
Council approved the noise waiver without discussion as part of its consent agenda.
A borough contractor will perform the work on the following schedule:
- Tuesday night: McAllister to Hiester, Hiester to Sowers
- Wednesday night: Hiester to Sowers, Sowers to Hetzel
- Thursday night: Sowers to Hetzel, Hetzel to High
- Friday night: Hetzel to High
