The shock is starting to settle as the Penn State community starts to digest those sweeping NCAA sanctions.  Among other things, they effectively stripped Joe Paterno from the history books.

Now even the remnants of his image outside the house he helped to build are gone.

The wall that stood behind the once iconic, now infamous statue was reduced to a pile of rubble on Tuesday.

This is two days after contractors hauled the Joe Paterno sculpture away.

6 News checked with university officials and they said no decisions have been made on where the statue will ultimately end up.

The Centre County Commissioners are among those questioning the NCAA sanctions.  Penn state remains Centre County’s main economic engine which provides numerous other benefits.

Tuesday the commissioners voiced concern how the sanctions are punishing the entire area.

A Penn State University spokesman said the fine will be paid in $12-million increments each year for the next five years.  The university will use its athletics reserve fund and capital maintenance budget if necessary.  The spokesman says no tax dollars will be used to pay the fine.
