Jeff Gordon will put on some blue and white today as he races at Pocono in this weekend’s NASCAR event.
The reasoning behind the sudden change in colors? Axalta, a Philadelphia automotive company and one of Gordon’s sponsors, announced a partnership with Penn State in late March.
The partnership aims to recruit students interested in studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), as well as business.
One-hundred Penn State students will spend the weekend at the track, taking part in information sessions and watching professionals in their fields from both Axalta and Gordon’s race team.
The good news for fans, Gordon qualified fourth this week putting Penn State and Gordon up front for this weekend’s race. Gordon is currently ninth in the Sprint Cup standings with no wins on the year. The race is set to run Sunday at 1 p.m. and will air on Fox Sports 1.
