If you’ve visited the Penn State golf courses you may have noticed that the first tee of the white course is where it has always been.
Except this time your backswing might be impeded by the presence of construction equipment. Nothing says a long day on the course like hitting a backhoe before you ever hit the ball.
No worries though, a temporary tee has been moved up just a bit so there’s no excuse if things go south in a hurry during your round.
The reason for the new obstacle: ground-breaking that recently took place for the Hawbaker Pavilion. The pavilion will provide a permanent structure for events at the golf course instead of the tents so frequently seen adjacent to the parking lot area.
For years Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc. has hosted a charity event at the course, erecting a hospitality tent like so many to host events at the course. The Hawbaker family recently proposed to Penn State replacing the tents with a permanent structure with a capacity of 300-plus people.
Construction has begun on the Hawbaker Pavilion, which will be located adjacent to the Walker Clubhouse. The pavilion will have an unobstructed view of the first hole of the White Course.
The Hawbaker Pavilion is scheduled for completion in July, 2015.
