Penn State associate head coach Eugene Burroughs’ future with the Nittany Lion program is still in flux according to head coach Patrick Chambers.
“I talked to him Friday,” Chambers said. “No changes in his future, still 50-50. There is no timetable, we’re going to let it play out. He’s a friend and a colleague. We want to keep him but we also understand life trials and tribulations.”
Burroughs, a Philadelphia native, oversees the day-to-day operation of the program and has been a vital asset in Penn State’s growing recruiting base in Pennsylvania. Following his first season at Penn State, Burroughs was invited to attend the 2012 NCAA and BCA Achieving Coaching Excellence (ACE) Program. Chambers and Burroughs have known each other for over 20 years.
Burroughs’ current situation is unknown, although it has been implied that it is of a personal nature rather than anything related to his actual coaching duties at Penn State.
Along with Burroughs, Director of Ops and Video coordinator Adam Fisher has been actively pursuing a job as an assistant coach.
“He is trying very hard to be an assistant,” Chambers said. “That’s his goal, that’s his dream. He is closing in on 30 and I understand and he has been video coordinator and director of ops for a long time and he wants to get out on the floor and I can’t fault him for that.”
The Nittany Lions are entering their third season under Patrick Chambers and both Burroughs and Fisher have been important parts of Chambers’ foundation in Happy Valley.
