Penn State men’s basketball coach Ed DeChellis has accepted the head coaching job at Navy, the Harrisburg Patriot-News and ESPN are reporting. A news conference has been scheduled for 7 p.m. today at the Bryce Jordan Center.

According to the reports, DeChellis will replace Billy Lange, who left Navy to become the associate head coach at Villanova.

DeChellis has been coach of the Nittany Lions since 2003. He previously served as an assistant coach at Penn State and Salem College and, for seven years, head coach of East Tennessee State.

Although DeChellis led the Nittany Lions into the NCAA tournament for the first time in a decade in 2011, he has been under fire in some circles for not building a consistent winner at Penn State.

The Lions were 19-15 overall and 9-9 in the Big Ten last year and lost to Temple in the second round of the tournament.

DeChellis was given a three-year extension in 2009, after the Lions won the NIT title. He has compiled a 117-139 record at Penn State and 222-232 overall.
