The Nittany Lions couldn’t overcome making only four shots in the first half as Penn State’s road woes continued during a 65-47 loss to Saint Joseph’s on Saturday afternoon.
The Penn State men’s basketball team shot only 26 percent from the field and connected on 7-28 three-pointers. Meanwhile, the Hawks saw a solid 17-point game from their sophomore guard Longston Galloway and 14 points from forward C.J Aiken.
Penn State has struggled finding its shot away from the Jordan Center and started the game down 22-0 before scoring almost 10 minutes in to the game. Tim Frazier and Billy Oliver, who have become reliable scorers for the Nittany Lions, started cold and struggled to find their game.
Despite being down 10-33 at halftime, Penn State fought its way back to within 17 points late in the second half but could not complete the comeback. Penn State’s inconsistent shooting and youth have been the team’s weaknesses: Both of its losses have come on the road and have resulted from poor shooting performances.
The Nittany Lions fall to 5-2 on the year while Saint Joe’s goes to 4-2 after a shaky start to its season. Penn State will complete a stretch of four games away from home this Wednesday when it takes on Boston College as part of the Big Ten/ACC Challenge. Penn State is 4-6 all-time in Challenge Games, having won three of its last four.
