Standing outside of the Tussey Mountain ski lodge, Penn State basketball coach Pat Chambers greeted fans as they entered Wing Fest for an evening of music and food Thursday night.
Senior guard Tim Frazier posed for photos with fans and thanked them for their continued support.
The public appearances and hard work on the court seem to be paying off as Penn State basketball marketing manager Loren Crispell said season ticket sales have increased for the second consecutive year.
‘We’re already beyond the new season ticket sales where we were this point last year,’ Crispell said.
Penn State basketball saw an increase last season as Chambers was introduced as Penn State’s new coach. The total aggregate increase is roughly 3 percent, Crispell said.
‘While renewals are still out and yet to be accounted for, we’re beyond where we are projected to be at this point.’ Crispell said.
Penn State partnered with IMG College Ticket Solutions in October to give the university a full-time staff focused on the sale of Nittany Lion event tickets.
‘IMG gives us the ability to talk to ticket holders that haven’t bought basketball tickets before, or have yet to renew their current packages.’ Crispell said.
‘We’re seeing people interested in supporting Penn State,’ Crispell said, saying that there is no obvious correlation between the Penn State scandal and season ticket sales.
Penn State opens up Chambers’ second season against St. Francis on Nov. 9.
