Penn State Basketball: Sheldon Jeter to Visit Happy Valley Thursday, to Make College Choice May 3

Sheldon Jeter is about to call it quits on the recruiting trail.

Jeter, a highly-touted 6-foot-7, 210-pound small forward from Beaver Falls High School, confirmed to StateCollege.com Monday that he will make an official recruiting visit to Penn State Thursday before announcing his college choice May 3.

He also is considering Vanderbilt, Wisconsin and South Carolina.

Jeter is ranked the 150th-best player in the country by Rivals.com and was a member of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Fabulous Five team. 

While this week’s visit to Happy Valley is his first official visit in the eyes of the NCAA, it is not the first time Jeter has stepped inside of the Bryce Jordan Center.

Jeter recently played in the PIAA Class AA championship game against future Nittany Lion, Brandon Austin. Jeter’s Beaver Falls team lost to Austin’s Imhotep Charter squad, 56-54, in overtime.

Penn State was considered for some time to be the favorite to land the talented Pittsburgh athlete who seemed openly interested in Pat Chambers and his growing program. But Jeter’s father, Carliss, told a South Carolina website Monday he’s surprised his son is visiting University Park.

‘I’m not sure why he’s visiting Penn State,’ Carliss Jeter said. ‘I think it’s South Carolina, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin.’ 

Penn State currently is looking to fill the void left by the departure of five players after the 2012 season. Cammeron Woodyard graduated and Matt Glover, Trey Lewis, and Peter Alexis all transferred. Billy Oliver also announced he will not return next season after dealing with issues of post-concussion symptoms.
