With Penn State basketball’s season rapidly coming to a close, perhaps as soon as Saturday afternoon in South Bend, one of the biggest questions facing the program will soon be answered.

What is Tony Carr going to do? Is he going to declare for the draft, or return for his junior season?

The answer might end up being both.

“Yeah, to be honest, we definitely have a decision to make with the things people are saying,” Carr said after Penn State’s win over Temple. “But like I said, I just want to focus on this season, these last few games we have, and cherish (them) because we’re never gonna get this back.”

So far Carr hasn’t seen his stock rise past the second round of the NBA Draft, but given the Nittany Lions all but non existent draft history, even a late pick is something worth paying attention to. Of course the money is better in the first round and Carr might be well served (not to mention Penn State) if he returns for a final season to hone his skill.

Ask coach Pat Chambers and while he wouldn’t commit to say Carr is going to declare, given the increasing praise Carr has gotten, Chambers is basically assuming Carr will test the waters and get some official evaluations and go from there.

The key date, June 11. Carr can go through all of the motions, even working out at the combine in late May, but he has until June 11 to remove his name from the draft pool and return to Penn State.

What he actually does is anybody’s guess, but if Carr does declare, don’t burn the house down just yet.

‘I don’t want to assume anything,’ Chambers said on Thursday. ‘But with the good feedback he’s getting, he’s got a heck of a shot. And why wouldn’t we (support him) if it was really good (his draft stock) it’s a win-win for everybody.’
