Penn State’s 2018 recruiting class couldn’t have started off any better as the Nittany Lions landed the verbal commitment of five-star defensive end and PA native Micah Parsons on Saturday.

‘Thank you to my family and friends who have helped me with the process,’ Parsons tweeted in a statement. ‘But I have announced that I am committing to the university of Penn State. I believe this is the best school for me and I will be representing the 717 to the day I die.’

The Central Dauphin native is rated the third best prospect in the 2018 recruiting class according to the 247 Network and is an U.S. Army All-American. The 6-foot-3, 235-pound Parsons has visited Penn State on multiple occasions, reportedly almost committing on more than one trip to campus, finally pulling the trigger Saturday.

Parsons is the first commitment for Penn State’s 2018 haul while the 2017 class is currently two deep with four-star prospects Dylan Rivers (OLB) and Sean Clifford (QB) already in the fold.
