From Nittany Lion and one of the best recruits to ever sign with Penn State is back on campus. Justin King, a standout two-way player from 2005-2007, returned to his alma mater this week as an assistant recruiting coordinator. King made the news official on his Twitter account.
The 30-year-old Pittsburgh native will join his stepfather, Penn State cornerbacks coach Terry Smith on the recruiting trail.
While at Penn State, King was part of a dynamic duo alongside five-star receiver Derrick Williams who helped rejuvenate a struggling program for a historic 2005 season and eventual 2006 Orange Bowl victory over Florida State. Williams recently returned to campus as well, working as a sideline reporter for the radio broadcast with Steve Jones and Jack Ham.
King declared early for the 2008 NFL Draft following a First Team All-Big Ten season at cornerback and was selected No. 101 overall by the St. Louis Rams. He clocked the second-fastest 40-yard dash at that year’s combine in 4.31 seconds — behind only Chris Johnson’s then-record 4.24.
Before his eventual retirement King spent six years in the league, playing in Indianapolis and Pittsburgh, before being released in July 2013.
