Penn State Football: Godwin Selected No.84 Overall By Tampa Bay

Former Nittany Lion receiver Chris Godwin’s NFL dream became reality on Friday night as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers drafted Godwin No.84 overall in the third round of the NFL Draft.

Known for his ability to win 50/50 balls, Godwin brings with him a unique skill set of speed, toughness and agility. While at Penn State the Delaware native racked up 59 receptions during his junior campaign for 982 yards and 11 touchdowns. In total, Godwin left Penn State with just over 2,400 receiving yards and three impressive bowl performances under his belt.

Godwin becomes the second Penn State receiver in recent years to hear his name called, former Nittany Lion Allen Robinson was drafted in the second round by the Jacksonville Jaguars and quickly turned into one of the leagues great young receivers. The past two seasons Robinson registered 73 and 80 receptions for 2,200 yards of offense.

If Godwin is able to follow in Robinson’s footsteps remains to be seen, but he took an important first step on Friday night.

“Chris Godwin has been an exceptional player and teammate during his time here at Penn State,” wide receivers coach Josh Gattis said. “Chris will be missed deeply by this program, but we wish him the best moving forward in his NFL career! Chris is an elite receiver that will have a very long and successful career in the NFL! His talent is a direct reflection of his work ethic. Chris has the ability to make an immediate impact in Tampa Bay.”

Penn State fans will now wait to see when defensive end Garrett Sickels is taken off the board.
