Penn State is getting alternate, retro-inspired uniforms for its game against Indiana on Sept. 30, a mashup of details from the Nittany Lions’ various uniforms from throughout the decades.
The look is more a throwback to the days of old than a completely new take on the classic uniform.
Jerseys will feature the original block numbers of the mid-1950s and 1960s, a vintage signature Lion Shrine logo, a subtle script recognition of the 1959 Liberty Bowl champion team and the traditional white stripe on the sleeves.
Helmets will have numbers on the sides, as worn from the 1950s through the 1970s, a gray 1950s-80s facemask.
Pants have an early 1950s to 1960s blue stripe down the sides and the socks will have the blue strip worn from 1970 to 1972.
The uniforms also feature white cleats as worn in the 1979 Sugar Bowl.
James Franklin is set to address the media at 2 p.m. inside Beaver Stadium to go over the thought process behind the changes.
