Zayd Issah, a three-star linebacker in Penn State’s 2013 recruiting class, was arrested for his alleged role in a counterfeit cash scheme.
Susquehanna Township Police Chief Robert Martin said three men were arrested for forgery and charged after passing counterfeit $20 bills at local fast food restaurants. Police began the investigation March 9.
Further investigation led police to identify the three men as Brandon Wallace, 19, Devacio Mcgowan, 18, and Zayd Issah, 18. Each was charged with forgery, theft by deception, and criminal conspiracy. Each man was arraigned and released on $1,000 unsecured bail, police said.
The Patriot News reported that township police used Facebook messages between Issah and one of the suspects to determine that Issah knew the money was counterfeit and that he had a plan to “clean” it, and that a hearing is scheduled for May 9.
Issah has not yet enrolled at Penn State and it is unknown how this will affect his status at the university or with the football program.
