Penn State wide receiver John Dunmore has withdrawn from Penn State according to a report by Lions247, Penn State confirmed the roster change in a statement, indicating the move was for personal reasons.

According to Lions247, Dunmore had been training at home in South Florida for the past several weeks. The redshirt freshman had yet to see any significant playing time while in State College, appearing in just one game during the 2019 season.

At the time of his verbal commitment, Dunmore was an Under Armour All-American and rated the No. 120 overall prospect and the nation’s No. 20 wide receiver in the class. The Florida native choose Penn State over a host of southern schools including effectively every major program in his home state of Florida.

Time will tell the impact of Dunmore’s departure, although at face value the loss of another body in a wide receiver room still in the process of self-discovery is far from a positive. The Nittany Lions are still looking to establish consistency in the receiving aspect of the passing game, now a far cry from the sure-handed 2016 and 2017 teams in particular.

With or without Dunmore, Penn State will lean on the likes of Jahan Dotson in the primary receiving role with plenty of open spots behind him on the depth chart.
