Fan favorite and former Penn State kicker Sam Ficken will get his chance in regular season action as the Los Angeles Rams have signed the former Nittany Lion, according to ESPN.
Once in L.A., Ficken will be set to replace Pro Bowl kicker Greg Zuerlein, who was placed on the injured reserved list following a back injury. It remains to be seen how long Zuerlein will miss, but it could be the remainder of the season. With the Rams at 10-4 and two game ahead of the Seattle Seahawks in the NFC West it seems almost certain Ficken will be making meaningful plays in the final stages of the regular season and beyond.
Ficken played for Penn State from 2011 through 2014. He started his career in State College slowly, but finished it as one of the program’s most successful kickers and one of its best comeback stories.
Ficken went undrafted in 2015 and had stints with the Kansas City Chiefs and Jacksonville Jaguars in the preseason. This will be his first time kicking in a regular season game.
