Penn State Football: Nittany Lion Surge Into Florida Continues With Four-Star Commit

Penn State football landed a verbal commitment on Monday night from four-star running back Keyvone Lee, continuing a surge into Florida over the past four recruiting classes.

Lee hails from Clearwater, Fla., playing at Superior Collegiate Academy in his hometown. Lee choose the Nittany Lions over a handful of southern program including Alabama, Florida and LSU among others.

Penn State has continued to recruit the Sunshine State well under James Franklin and especially under the watch of running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider, a Belle Glade native who was hired in January of 2018. The Nittany Lions in total have landed the commitments of five prospects at four-star level from Florida over the past four classes and eight players from the state overall.

For comparison, Penn State had landed five commitments over the previous 17 recruiting cycles between the 2000 and 2016 classes, according to the 247 Network recruiting database. Or if you rather, eight of Penn State’s 13 Florida-based commitments have come since 2017.

Lee joins fellow 2020 four-star back and Florida native Caziah Holmes in Penn State’s future class.

The Nittany Lions now sit with 23 verbal pledges, including two running backs, coming in at third in the Big Ten and 14th best in the nation according to the 247 Network.
