Penn State added yet another commitment on Wednesday as the recruiting surge continued, this time with an upset on the books as West Virginia safety Derrek Pitts verbally committed.
Pitts was widely regarded a heavy favorite to commit to his in-state school of West Virginia according to multiple recruiting outlets. Pitts made the announcement at a local restaurant.
A three-star prospect, Pitts is the 11th commitment for the Nittany Lions in the Class of 2017 and the third in the past week following Penn State’s biggest recruiting weekend of the year. Pitts is the No. 29 athlete nationally and the No. 2 prospect in West Virginia according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
The 6-foot-1, 174-pound prospect chose the Nittany Lions over scholarship offers from Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Maryland, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Pittsburgh among others.
