James Franklin isn’t wasting any time on the recruiting trail, landing two more commitments over the weekend according to multiple recruiting outlets.
Most notably, four-star wide receiver Saeed Blacknall, originally a Rutgers commit, flipped to the Nittany Lions only a week after reportedly taking an unofficial visit to Happy Valley. Along with Penn State, Blacknall had also received offers from the likes of LSU, Alabama, Michigan, Ohio State, Nebraska and Notre Dame.
Blacknall made the call to become a Scarlet Knight back in August, but began to reconsider after his visit to Penn State. Blacknall is another big get for Franklin and his staff. He comes in at 6-foot-3, 205 pounds and is rated one of the Top 250 prospects in the 2014 recruiting class according to Rivals.com.
After pulling down 15 touchdowns this past season, Blacknall joins Chris Godwin, De’Andre Thompkins, and Troy Apke as the fourth receiver in the 2014 class. Mike Gesicki, the top tight end recruit in the country according to many recruiting outlets has also joined the growing number of targets for soon-to-be sophomore Christian Hackenberg.
In addition to Blacknall, Penn State also landed safety/linebacker Koa Farmer who flipped from Cal to become a Nittany Lion.
“The journey is done! First I want to thank California-Berkeley for the great and outstanding opportunity. It has been a long and powerful journey,” Farmer posted on his Instagram account. “I am blessed to announce that I will be ending the recruiting process and attend PENN STATE UNIVERSITY were I will become DR. FARMER and fulfill my dream of becoming a P.H.D in Pathology! We Penn State are on the rise. We are going to win the Rose Bowl. We are going to win a national championship. All I can say now is #WEARE #PENNSTATE”
Farmer is rated a four-star prospect by Rivals.com and brings the Nittany Lions a unique west coast flavor as a California native.
