Penn State football checked in at No. 17 in the new AP Top 25 Poll released on Sunday.

The Nittany Lions took down Indiana in Bloomington on Saturday afternoon during a game that was much closer than it probably should’ve been. The team hovered around the No. 10 spot in the AP poll for most of the season before sliding all the way down to a season-low No. 18 last week. Penn State’s highest ranking of the season came in the week 7 poll, when the team was ranked No. 8 following its bye week.

On top of its new AP Poll ranking, Penn State stayed put at No. 16 in the Coaches’ Poll. The College Football Playoff committee will also unveil its first top 25 poll of the 2018 season on Tuesday, October 30.

No. 17 Penn State will host No. 18 Iowa at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, its first of three consecutive games against ranked opponents.

Among other Penn State 2018 opponents, Appalachian State entered the AP poll for the first time in program history, coming in at No. 25. Ohio State slid from No. 2 to No. 11 after getting clobbered by Purdue on Saturday. Michigan, who Penn State will face in two weeks, moved up to No. 5 after downing Michigan State, which fell out of the top 25. Wisconsin, which comes to Beaver Stadium on Nov. 10, is ranked No. 20.
