Penn State offensive lineman Landon Tengwall will miss the remainder of the 2022 season following surgery to repair an undisclosed injury, coach James Franklin said on Tuesday afternoon.

The redshirt freshman had missed the past several weeks and did not travel to Penn State’s blowout victory over Indiana this past weekend.

“As you know I won’t really talk about injuries unless I talked to the young man first about it,” Franklin said. “Landon [Tengwall] did have surgery and will be out for the remainder of the year. He’s been a class act both on and off the field. I think he’s got a very, very bright future. Obviously, you hate these types of setbacks.”

Tengwall started the first five games of the year at left guard but was injured during pregame warmups against Michigan prior to the Nittany Lions’ first loss of the season.

“It happened in pregame, right before the game. I do think that was something that we needed to learn from,” Franklin said at the time. “Something like this may happen and we got to…respond quickly, and I don’t know if we necessary did with his initially.”

Elsewhere along the offensive front, Penn State is still awaiting the return of left tackle Olu Fashanu, who Franklin described as still being week-to-week with his availability. The potential first round draft choice was injured late in Penn State’s loss to Ohio State two weeks ago and, like Tengwall, did not travel to the Nittany Lions’ victory over Indiana this past weekend.

Not all news across the offensive front was bad on Tuesday though. Earlier in the day Hunter Nourzad announced his intentions to return for one final year in 2023.
