Penn State Football Recruiting: Erie Quarterback Damion Terry on Nittany Lions Radar

Penn State hosted nearly 50 recruits, including nine quarterbacks from five different states, on Saturday as part of a day-long event with some of the top recruits in the 2013 class.

While Ashburn, Va., Stone Bridge’s Ryan Burns, and Fork Union, Va., Military Academy’s Christian Hackenberg are currently the only quarterbacks with scholarship offers from Bill O’Brien and his staff, Pennsylvania native Damion Terry is still getting attention from Nittany Lion coaches.

“My visit went real well,” said Terry, the 6-foot-4, 210 pound dual-threat quarterback from Erie Cathedral Prep. “I like Coach O’Brien a lot and the direction he has Penn State going. He’s a really good coach.”

Terry threw for 1,450 yards and ran for another 314 yards in a spread option offense this past season but ran a pro-style offense as a sophomore. Erie Cathedral Prep lost in the first round of the PIAA AAA tournament in 2011 and finished with a 9-3 record.

Among the other quarterbacks on hand for Penn State’s Junior Day, according to the Altoona Mirror, were Brookfield, Conn.’s Boeing Brown, Plantation, Fla.’s Tyler Cogswell, Mentor, Ohio’s Mitch Trubisky, McKeesport’s Ed Stockett, Methacton’s Brandon Bossard and Philadelphia’s Mike Keir.

Terry currently holds no scholarship offers from any Division I schools but is getting calls from programs such as Boston College, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Iowa, Illinois and West Virginia.

“My recruiting is going very well,” Terry said. “I’ve just been going to junior days and making my list for spring practices. I have a few more visits planned.”

Terry said Penn State hasn’t indicated if they’ll offer him a scholarship, but he isn’t in a hurry to make a decision just yet.

“I think I’m going to early in my senior year or during the summer,” Terry said.
