The father of Penn State middle linebacker Khairi Fortt says 30-40 schools have contacted his son since the NCAA handed down harsh sanctions against the Nittany Lions on Monday and he is weighing his options.
“TCU, UConn, Kansas, Washington, Auburn, Baylor, FSU, Vanderbilt and several others told him he has a scholarship at their program,” Guy Fortt told ESPN Thursday.
“He is torn, but I think he is doing his due diligence and evaluating his options.”
The Penn State coaching staff could learn Fortt’s decision soon, according to the report.
“He has a lot of respect for Bill O’Brien and his coaching staff, but as of right now he really does not know what he is going to do,” Guy Fortt said. “He is going to weigh his options this weekend and try to make a decision next week between Monday and Wednesday.”
Khairi Fortt, 6 feet 2 and 238 pounds, was a U.S. Army All-America selection coming out of high school in Stamford, Conn.
He had surgery in late April to attach his Achilles tendon to the inside of his kneecap and missed most of the spring.
Fortt played in all 13 games a season ago for the Nittany Lions, primarily on the outside, and finished with 33 tackles, six tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.
The Penn State coaching staff also is waiting to find out if junior tailback Silas Redd will transfer to USC and if punter/kicker Anthony heads to Texas.
