Penn State wideout DeAndre Thompkins showcased his speed and quickness during Pro Day on Tuesday morning, headlining the testing with a 4.33 40-yard dash.
“I’ve heard both [from NFL teams],” Thompkins said of his prospects as a kick returner or receiver, having done both while at Penn State. “The more versatile you are, the more they like you, and the more places they can put you, which leads to more opportunities. I think they really take that into consideration.”
Thompkins wasn’t the only player showing off his speed on Tuesday. Linebacker Koa Farmer posted a 4.48 while Nick Scott and Johnathan Thomas put up 4.43 and 4.40, respectively. Miles Sanders, among others, did not run following their testing at the NFL Combine a few weeks ago.
“I’m a player who’s going to do whatever’s asked of me,” Scott said. “I’m a team guy first. If you want me to be your gunner my whole career, I’ll be your gunner. If you want me to be your starting safety, I’ll be your starting safety. What you’re going to get out of me is what you ask for.”
“It was a big day for me,” Farmer added. “It was kind of do or die. It’s always a great opportunity to come out here and show the world what I can do and prove people wrong. I think I had a pretty good day — I’m proud of myself.”
And as for their famous former teammate Saquon Barkley, who showed up dressed in a custom sweatshirt by fellow Nittany Lion Marcus Allen, it appears he hasn’t changed much, millions and millions later.
“I walked downstairs, and he was uncomfortably sleeping on my couch,” Farmer said. “Saquon’s one of my boys. That’s the kind of guy he is — he wants to see us be successful. He’s humble, he works hard, and he wants other people around him to get better. He’s the best leader I’ve ever met.”
