Uplifting Athletes will host a State College event this Saturday as it continues to help in the fight against Kidney Cancer.

The year long fundraising effort culminates with Penn State’s annual Lift For Life event on July 12.

“Uplifting Athletes is important to me because it allows us to use our platform as student athletes to provide a voice for patients and families that need one” said Penn State’s Chapter President and Nittany Lion linebacker Ben Kline.

Kline is the latest in a growing list of Penn State Uplifting Athlete Presidents that have continued to grow the scope and reach of the organization, Lift For Life and year-long fundraising efforts.

In 2013 the Nittany Lion chapter raised $133,500, a figure that shattered previous records. Heading into the organization’s 12th year just over $825,000 has been raised towards the cause with the $1 million mark a real possibility for the 2014 campaign.

“Our goal is to beat the amount that we raised last year and to continue to grow,” Kline told StateCollege.com “We also want to provide members of the community a greater opportunity to get involved, which is why we’re hosting these events.”

State College residents can get in on the action this weekend at Spring Creek Park from 10am-12pm at a field day that will feature skill and drill sessions much like the ones Penn State football players will take part in on July 12. Registration for the event is $15 and is generally geared towards children. Penn State football players will be in attendance during the event for photo and autographs as well.

“These events are important to Uplifting Athletes because they are a major part of our year-round fundraising effort,” Kline said. “And because they build momentum and excitement for Lift For Life this summer.”

Additional events are taking place this weekend one in Lancaster can be read about here. More information on the State College event can be found here.
