The Penn State men’s hockey team will face Cornell at Madison Square Garden Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014. Opening faceoff at is set for 8 p.m.
Madison Square Garden will mark the third professional arena the Nittany Lions have played in after making stops in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia this year. The Garden is the home of the NHL’s New York Rangers. The teams will face off during Thanksgiving weekend for the first time as NCAA Division I foes. During Penn State’s early varsity years, the Nittany Lions and Cornell met in Ithaca, N.Y., Feb. 5, 1944.
“We’re excited to play at the World’s Most Famous Arena for the first time with the support of Penn State’s passionate alumni and fans in the area,” said Penn State head men’s hockey coach Guy Gadowsky. “Cornell is one of the top programs in the country, and it will make for an exciting night of hockey for everyone involved.”
“This is a terrific opportunity to play one of the most talked about college hockey programs in the country at such an elite venue,” said Cornell head coach Mike Schafer. “We’re extremely excited to play Penn State, which has been building a great program and will surely be a perennial national contender.”
