After an almost two-week long break Penn State men’s hockey team will be back in action this weekend against No. 15 ranked Union.
The Nittany Lions are 3-5-1 on the year and will face Union for the second straight season in a two-game series. Both Saturday and Sunday’s puck drop at the Pegula Ice Arena are set for a 7 p.m. faceoff and will be streamed live through the Big Ten Digital Network.
Last season Penn State fell in both meetings against Union by a score of 2-0 and 4-1. David Glen scored the lone Nittany Lion goal of the weekend, while Matthew Skoff set then-career highs with 40 and 42 saves. The Dutchmen, who are 5-1-1 in their last seven games also boast a power play ranked 11th in the nation. The Dutchmen enter this weekend on a three-game winning streak.
“Even though we didn’t beat UMass-Lowell, I think the guys believe this as well, I think we probably did have our best team game of the year,” Head coach Guy Gadowsky said earlier. “I think a lot of guys are hungry to get back at it to see, just to keep going. We started out slow. Eamon (McAdam) probably wanted the first two back, but then he played very well the second half and I thought the team played very well the second half. I think guys are hungry to see if we can continue that.”
Following the series, the Nittany Lions will open Big Ten play at No. 13/12 Wisconsin Dec. 6-7. Penn State ended its 2012-13 season with an overtime victory of the Badgers on the road.
