The Penn State Police are investigating a report that a woman was sexually assaulted on campus by a man known to her on Sunday afternoon.
Less than 24 hours before the official start of the fall semester at Penn State, police received the report at 5 p.m. Sunday from the woman who said she was assaulted in a residence hall. The woman, who police did not release any identifying information on, said the man who assaulted her is a white, 30-year-old with brown hair and blue eyes.
Police said they have identified the man but did not disclose if he has been taken into custody.
The investigation remains open.
Police ask that anyone who has information relevant to the investigation contact the police at (814) 863-1111 or can leave an anonymous tip via ‘Silent Witness,’ at police.psu.edu. Click on Silent Witness.
Information can also be reported to the Centre County Crime Stoppers at 1-877-99CRIME. A cash reward of up to $1,000 could be awarded to the individual or individuals that provided the information that leads to an arrest.
Police said they are in compliance with the ‘timely warning’ provision of the Clery Act, and advise any student who may need help or has been sexually assautled to notify police. Students can also glean more information from the Penn State Center for Women Students.
