Penn State’s ROTC and the Harry R. Armstrong Squadron — the Penn State chapter of the Arnold Air Society (AAS) — will host its annual Prisoner of War and Missing In Action vigil beginningFriday at 4 p.m. on Old Main lawn. The vigil will feature several guest speakers, a ‘missing man’ table with an honor guard, and a performance by the Wild Blue Yonders, an Airforce ROTC A Capella group.
The AAS is an extracurricular organization for Air Force Cadets named after the Air Force’s only Five-Star General Henry “Hap” Arnold. The Arnold Air Society and The Harry R, Armstrong Squadron host the Prisoner of War and Missing in Action vigil annually in remembrance of the men and women who have not come home from the battlefield.
More than 200 cadets and midshipmen involved in Penn State’s ROTC program will attend. Josh Maldonado, the Public Affairs Officer for the Harry R. Armstrong Squadron and Cadet 3rd Class in the Airforce ROTC, encourages non-military students and State College residents to attend.
The vigil’s main event will last 30-40 minutes, but the Missing Man Table and the honor guard will remain at Old Main for 24 hours.
