Penn State Women’s Soccer (5-1-1) will open its first Big Ten match up of the season taking on Wisconsin (3-3-2) in a White Out atmosphere this Thursday at 7 p.m. at Jeffrey Field. White out t-shirts will available for all fans that attend the game while supplies last.
Thursday’s match will be aired live on The Big Ten Network, along with live updates on GoPSUsports.com.
Coming into tonight’s game, The Nittany Lions defense has been unstoppable. The defense has posted approximately 262:52 minutes of scoreless play following then-No. 12 West Virginia’s goal at 7:08 on Sept. 4.
In Big Ten openers the women’s soccer team have an overall record of 18-2-1 leaving the Nittany Lions hopeful to win their 17th Big Ten title in 18 years. The Nittany Lions also own an impressive record of 109-5-4 in Big Ten play including seven undefeated seasons at Jeffrey Field.
Since 1992-93, the women’s soccer program has won 16 Big Ten titles and is currently tied for third place for the earning the most titles won by women’s sport programs in the Big Ten, with Penn State Women’s Volleyball taking first place.
All and all, it has been a great week for the women’s soccer team as three Nittany Lions have received Big Ten weekly honors.
Frannie Crouse was awarded the Offensive Player of the Week, which is also the first ever ESPNW weekly award given to the women’s soccer program. Britt Eckerstrom was named the Co-Defensive Player of the Week and Kaleigh Riehl received Freshman of the Week honors. Brittany Basinger was named TopDrawerSoccer.com Team of the Week.
Senior Mallory Weber is also tied for seventh in games played (79), tied for 13th in points (84), tied for 20th in assists (20) and is also one of seven student-athletes to have ever tallied 30 goals and 20 assists. Along side of Weber is senior, Raquel Rodriguez, who is tied for 10th with 23 completed assists.
Following tonight’s match, The Nittany Lions will be hosting the Minnesota Golden Gophers (5-1-2) on Sunday, Sept. 20, at 1 p.m., which will air live on BTN Plus and BTN2Go at Jeffrey Field. There will be a Tie Dye State for children 12 and under with a post-game autograph session of this year’s women’s soccer team.
There will be free parking and admission to both games.
