The Big Ten named Penn State’s Evan Finney as Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season after he helped Nittany Lion men’s soccer to wins over Pittsburgh and No. 19 Michigan State.

Finney didn’t allow a goal in either of the two games — both 1-0 wins. Finney racked up a combined three saves in the two games against Pitt and Michigan State. He now has a total of three shutouts in his eight starts this season and leads the Big Ten with a 0.50 goals against average and a .867 save percentage.

In the first week of the season, Finney earned the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honor after keeping a clean sheet against then No. 1 Stanford.

This is the third time this season a Penn State goalkeeper earned the honor. After Finney picked up an injury in the second game of the season, Arie Ammann won two games and posted a shutout to earn Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week.

Finney will likely be back in goal Tuesday night at Jeffrey Field as the Nittany Lions go for their third-straight shutout against No. 22 Akron.
