Penns Valley will be celebrating the holiday season with many Christmas-themed events, including the annual “Merry Millheim” celebration on Friday, Nov. 30, and Saturday, Dec. 1.
Millheim kicks off the season with its annual celebration, which features music, crafts and other activities held in and around downtown Millheim. Friday night will feature the Handmade Holiday Market in the Bremen Town Ballroom, with local artisans and vendors offering jewelry, wool items, wood and metal items, soaps, decorative pieces and other interesting articles from 5 to 9 p.m.
Across the street, the Inglebean Coffee House will host a bake sale and open mic music. A free movie, “The Star,” will be shown at Calvary Church on Penn Street at 6 p.m. Tree-lighting and caroling will take place at the Millheim Theater at 7:45 p.m. An art show reception at the Green Drake Art Gallery will feature 100 gift items for under $100 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Saturday’s events in Millheim include a Christmas pageant at St. John’s Childhood Center on Penn Street at 9:45 a.m., kids’ jewelry-making at the Green Drake, a petting zoo at Calvary Church, the Handmade Holiday Market in the Bremen Town Ballroom and other events. Penns Valley Jewelers, the Millheim Small Engine Shop and other merchants will offer special deals for local shoppers.

Friday, Dec. 7, is the date for the Centre Hall Community Christmas, with a tree-lighting at St. Luke Lutheran Church at 6:30 p.m. followed by caroling, hot cocoa and cookies. On Saturday, Dec. 8, Grace United Methodist Church will host a craft fair with children’s activities from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., followed by the Penns Valley Men’s Choir singing at 3 p.m. and a live nativity from 4 to 6 p.m.
On Sunday, Dec. 9, St. Luke will host a combined community choir concert at 3 p.m. A light dinner will follow.
A holiday craft fair will be held Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Old Gregg School Community Center in Spring Mills as a fundraiser supporting the center’s year-round activities. Vendors selling all types of craft and food items will be in the school gymnasium and first floor hallway in the building. A wide variety of items from many vendors will be available at this event, which also will feature live music on the school stage.
In a basement room of the school building, the Nittany Valley Model Railroad Club will hold its annual open house for the public to enjoy a large HO-scale model train layout featuring several running trains. The club has about a dozen members who have been working on the multilevel layout since the spring of 2012. The layout features several scale miles of track, with realistic landscaping and trackside buildings. The club meets in the layout room at the Old Gregg School on Tuesday nights for work sessions.
