Twenty of the plaintiffs are suing the NCAA have sent a letter to the Penn State Lettermen’s Club on Thursday, explaining their actions and asking for support as the legal process unfolds. The club includes hundreds of former Penn State football players.
Paul Kelly, the attorney representing many of the plaintiffs, said his clients wanted to contact the Lettermen’s Club because of their commitment to the Penn State football program and how the sanctions impact those men. The lawsuit filed against the NCAA on Thursday is not because anyone is “out for a dollar,” Kelly said, but rather a fight against the injustice his clients believe they have witnessed and an effort to do what they think is right.
“They haven’t had a voice,” Kelly said.
The letter, in its entirety, is below. It was signed by all of the plaintiffs – Penn State trustees Ryan McCombie, Anthony Lubrano, Al Clemens, Peter Khoury and Adam Taliaferro; Penn State faculty members Peter Bordi, Terry Engelder, Spencer Niles and John O’Donnell; former Penn State football coaches William Kenney and Jay Paterno; and former Penn State football players Anthony Adams, Gerald Cadogan, Shamar Finney, Justin Kurpeikis, Richard Gardner, Josh Gaines, Patrick Mauti, Anwar Phillips and Michael Robinson – except for the Paterno family.
The lawsuit was filed Thursday in Centre County Court and seeks a full reversal of the sanctions and for a judge to void the Consent Decree that penalized Penn State.
