Police on Tuesday charged a Penn State student accused of striking a pedestrian with his vehicle and then leaving the scene last month in downtown State College.
Lance E. Midboe, 20, is charged with a misdemeanor count of accidents involving personal injury and summary offenses of failing to stop and provide information or render aid and failing to yield right of way to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
Midboe was driving a Honda CR-V at about 4:10 p.m. on Sept. 11 when he turned left from East College Avenue onto McAllister Street and struck a man pushing a child in a stroller eastbound in the crosswalk, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed by State College police.
The man sought medical treatment for head, knee and hip pain, police wrote. The child was not struck or injured.
Video footage showed the CR-V hitting the man then continuing south on McAllister Street without stopping, according to the affidavit. Midboe was identified by the vehicle registration and, when contacted by an officer, admitted to hitting the man, police wrote.
Midboe was arraigned by District Judge Steven Lachman and released on recognizance. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 4.
