State College police are warning residents to be careful after homemade candy treats containing marijuana turned up on a sidewalk.

They’re using the incident as a teachable moment. Parents are reminded to inspect any Halloween candy or snacks before children are allowed to eat them.

A State College resident found a ziplock baggie packed with three marijuana cereal bars in the 200 block of East College Avenue, early Thursday morning. The bars were wrapped in tin foil.

Investigators say the cereal bars were made out of Captain Crunch and Fruity Pebbles cereal and tested positive for marijuana. There are no suspects.

With kids heading out to trick-or-treat tonight, police recommend that parents set up a “Bring It Home First” rule with their children.

You should take a close look at anything your kids bring home, especially candy or homemade food. You should check the candy for texture and shape and throw away anything that appears to be out of the ordinary.
