State College police are looking for a suspect they believe stole a vehicle from a fitness center parking lot, abandoned it more than 100 miles away, then stole another car.
At about 7 a.m. on Thursday, a man reported to police that his black Toyota Scion was stolen from the parking lot outside Planet Fitness at the Nittany Mall. Police said video showed the suspect removed the man’s car keys from storage hooks in the gym lobby at 6:19 am and then drove off in the vehicle.
The Scion was found at 9:46 p.m. Thursday near mile marker 24 along Interstate 83 south by state police at York. The car keys were located at the Planet Fitness location on Greensprings Drive in York.
According to police, the same suspect entered the York Planet Fitness and placed the Scion keys on storage hooks in the lobby. The suspect then allegedly removed a different set of keys and drove away in a silver Toyota Celica with Pennsylvania registration plate JLK2087. As of Monday afternoon, the Celica had not been recovered.
The suspect is described as a black male with facial hair. He was wearing a dark hat with light writing and headphones and was carrying a backpack.
Anyone who may be able to identify the suspect or who has information regarding this incident is asked to contact the State College Police Department at (814) 234-7150, by email or by submitting an anonymous tip through the department’s website.
