A student made a false report about being robbed by a man wielding a knife Tuesday night in a State College park, State College police said on Wednesday.

The student reported that at about 9:40 p.m. in Sunset Park on McKee Street, an unknown male approached him, grabbed him around the throat and displayed a knife. He claimed that the man cut him with the knife and stole his wallet.

Officers observed the student’s wounds were superficial and after further investigation the student admitted to making up the story and cutting himself, police said.

Police along with Penn State’s Office of Student Care and Advocacy will continue to investigate.
