State College school board members are expected to discuss tonight how they might cut $3.4 million from the district’s expenses next year.

Board members last month appeared unwilling to raise property taxes any more than three percent for the 2010-2011 year. That means they will to shave at least $3.4 million from the $109 million that the district is spending for 2009-2010, Business Administrator Jeff Ammerman has said.

District administrators have spent the past several weeks identifying potential ways to achieve those reductions. They are scheduled to present the board — and the public — with some possible cuts at a board work session starting at 7 p.m. today.

The session will be open to the public. It will be held in the board room of the district administration building, 131 W. Nittany Ave.D

District leaders would like to use attrition to achieve any job cuts that may be necessary, Superintendent Richard Mextorf has said.
