Drivers may encounter delays on Wednesday while road repair work takes place on a portion of North Atherton Street in State College, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

Centre County maintenance crews will be patching potholes from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on North Atherton between West College Avenue and White Course Drive. During that time northbound traffic will be restricted to a single lane, with the right lane closed.

The northbound left lane and both southbound lanes will remain open, but PennDOT urges drivers “to exercise caution in work zones, obey posted speed limits and always buckle up.”

PennDOT “thanks drivers for their patience” during what is expected to be a one-day operation.

The patching is just a temporary repair, as permanent repairs to the roadway will be part of the next phase of PennDOT’s Atherton Street improvement project, which will span from the Curtin Road intersection to the Westerly Parkway intersection.

Gas line relocation for the project began last year. Beginning later this spring and concluding in early summer 2024, the project will also include sewer and water line replacements; roadway, drainage, pedestrian and traffic signal improvements; and streetscape additions along a portion of the work area.
