Like being energy-efficient? Like Happy Hours? Then the Rathskeller is your place to be tonight. The Skeller is hosting a unique event on Wednesday dubbed “Low Power Happy Hour” which will focus energy efficiency at the bar.
The event, which goes from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. tonight, will feature energy-saving measures throughout the bar and will offer a special local menu that was designed intentionally to lessen the Skeller’s carbon footprint. One of these measures includes turning off the TVs. Monica Gastiger, owner of the Skeller, said, “We did this last month and had a great response, most of our regulars ended up playing cards and board games.”
Some student groups will meet at the Skeller during the Happy Hour for the event, including Graduate Students in Ecology and the Student Society of Architectural Engineers.
“We are hoping this becomes a regular event and maybe other places will be inspired to do something focusing on energy awareness,” Gastiger said. “We committed to use as many compostable products as possible at the Skeller and are looking at all aspects of sustainable, responsible business.”
