Federal agents on Monday reportedly raided at least five urgent care clinics in Pennsylvania, including one in State College.

The Advanced Urgent Care at 2615 E. College Ave. was among the company’s clinics raided by the Drug Enforcement Administration, FBI and U.S. Marshals, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Advanced Urgent Care clinics in the Philadelphia and Scranton areas were among the other targets.

A source told the Inquirer the raids were part of an investigation of Mehdi Nikparvar-Fard, who owns the clinics, and whether the clinics over-prescribed opioids.

Nikparvar-Fard has been in federal custody since September, though has not been charged with any drug-related crimes. According to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. Eastern District Court, U.S. Marshals went to one of his clinics in the Philadelphia area to serve a bench warrant in a lawsuit. Nikparvar-Fard allegedly lied about who he was and threatened to kill the marshals.

His medical license was suspended on Sept. 15 by the Pennsylvania Board of Medicine.

A person who answered the phone at the State College location said the clinic was not open on Wednesday but would be open on Thursday.
